Tourism conference offered insights to new, innovative marketing trends

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, April 28, 2009 - Predicting future trends in any industry is challenging; when that industry is increasingly reliant on the latest technology and shifting consumer behavior for its success, the challenge becomes even greater.

The 2009 Manitoba Tourism Conference drew over 300 tourism industry professionals to the Winnipeg Convention Centre this past weekend for a series of discussions and workshops, highlighted by the insights of two of North America's foremost innovative thinkers.

Peter Yesawich, Chairman & CEO of YPartnership, spoke on "Emerging Lifestyles and Travel Trends: Implications for Marketing Manitoba". Yesawich, a frequent commentator on travel trends in publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and others, discussed the three main forces impacting travel today: technology, social values and demography.

WINNIPEG, Jan. 28, 2009 -- Travel Manitoba made the province's presence felt at this month's All-Canada Shows for hunters and anglers in key U.S. Midwest markets.

The organization unveiled a multi-faceted new marketing initiative, which included a breakthrough TV component, at the outdoors expos held January 2-4 in downtown Minneapolis and January 8-11 in suburban Chicago.

A new promotional theme, "Manitoba Monsters" - a reference to the abundance of trophy-sized northern pike and large game -- made its debut, underscored by an imposing 20-foot inflatable replica of a northern pike tethered beside the all-new Travel Manitoba booth.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada, October 28, 2008 - Despite global economic turmoil, Manitoba's tourism industry is forecast to close out the year with an increase of 2.6 per cent in expenditures and 2.7 per cent in overnight visits, announced Hubert Mesman, Travel Manitoba's President and CEO, at the organization's third annual general meeting held today.

"The fact the Manitoba has enjoyed growth, despite a significant decline in U.S. same-day and overnight travellers, speaks to the strength of our industry and the province's ability to attract visitors to our world-class experiences," said Mesman.

Manitoba Celebrates Its Own for National Tourism Week

MANITOBA, Canada, June 4, 2008 - Tourism Week in Manitoba will wrap up with a celebration of Manitoba's great outdoors, cultural diversity, and home grown entertainment as Travel Manitoba hosts two days of fun and family entertainment. June 7 and 8, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Explore Manitoba Centre at the Forks will showcase the attractions of the province's regions, including Riding Mountain National Park, a wilderness highland of Canadian boreal forests, lakes and grasslands. For those unafraid of things that slither and crawl, Brandon's Westman Reptile Gardens will introduce visitors to a nine foot albino python and a Mexican red knee tarantula.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada, October 30, 2007 - Marketing the province as an "unforgettable" tourism destination, enhancing its website and increasing the focus on international markets were among the strategies used by Travel Manitoba, the province's tourism agency, to help boost tourism expenditures by 5.1 per cent last year.

Summer ends strong for tourism



WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada, September 5, 2007 - Manitoba's tourism industry is reporting strong performance as the summer season draws to a close. The province's hotels and accommodations sector is continuing its upward trend, with the number of room nights sold year-to-date increasing by 5.6 per cent over the same period in 2006. Winnipeg occupancy rates rose by 6.1 per cent, year-to-date, compared to 2006, and Brandon saw increases of 3.3 per cent year-to-date compared to 2006, as of June 30. "Manitoba's capacity for overnight guests has also grown substantially over the past five years," said Hubert Mesman, President and CEO of Travel Manitoba. "This increase in supply shows that demand is also growing and investors have great confidence in the future of the provincial tourism industry." The James A. Richardson International Airport is also busier compared to last year, welcoming 7.9 per cent more scheduled travellers year-to-date, as of June 30.
